Is Atlantis Bahamas Safe For Families and Tourists 2024?

Are you hoping to take your family to the Atlantis Resort and wondering is Atlantis Bahamas Safe for Families?

I recently traveled to the Bahamas with just my daughter and can honestly say we felt very safe the entire time.

As a single mom who travels often with her daughter, safety is always my number one concern. It’s one thing to be a solo female traveler responsible for myself but to ensure my daughter’s safety is always at the top of my mind.

So to me, any foreign country can make me a bit hesitant to travel to unless I know for sure that we will both be safe there.

The Bahamas has always been a bucket-list travel destination for us and we decided to book a trip to the Atlantis Resort in Nassau.

As always, I encourage you to research the destination you are traveling to and learn their laws. Knowing the laws helps keep you safe and know what rights you have in case something does happen.

Review: Atlantis Bahamas Review – The Good and the VERY Bad

Is Atlantis Bahamas Safe?

Atlantis Bahamas is one of the most popular resorts in the world and tourists from every part of the globe visit it.

Some people visit Atlantis and don’t even venture out to the rest of the island, Nassau Bahamas.

The Atlantis property itself is considered to be very safe. Because it is a private resort, you won’t find a lot of Nassau locals on the property.

Not that there is anything wrong with the local people of Nassau! Most of them are lovely people, but Nassau has had a lot of issues with crime and even some gang activity in the last few years.

So staying at a resort where there is security, increases the amount of safety you will encounter.

One drawback of the Atlantis resort is that they allow day passes to be purchased to access the beaches and waterpark. So not everyone at Atlantis is a guest of the resort.

Cruise ships also visit this area and every day numerous cruise ship passengers visit Atlantis as well.

*Baha Mar does not allow cruise ship passengers on their property so there are often fewer crowds and tourists tend to feel safer here.

My daughter and I spent several days lounging at the Atlantis pools, swimming at the beach, and going down the waterslide, and never once felt unsafe.

Atlantis also has numerous staff and security patrolling the resort throughout the day.

How to Stay Safe At Atlantis!

Like anywhere you travel, always exercise caution and be aware of your surroundings. Dont leave personal items unattended.

If you are a guest of the resort, you can charge food to your room which means you do not need to carry around a purse or any kind of money with you.

So the fewer personal items you carry around, the less chance you have of having those items stolen.

If you want to go swimming in the pools or beach area, make sure you lock your stuff up securely. I love this beach safe for valuables and phones. You can lock your valuables up and lock the safe to your lounge chair.

I also use this waterproof fanny pack when I’m swimming. It’s big enough for the necessities. It can hold my phone, car keys, and a small wallet. And it stays strapped to my body at all times. I use this when I go snorkeling and it has always kept my items bone dry!

Since you can charge stuff to your room, you don’t need to carry your purse or wallet around the resort with you or even to most of the restaurants at night.

And if safety is your main concern, I would highly recommend staying at the resort at night. Nighttime is when you will encounter the most crime out in the downtown area of Nassau. So if you do want to venture out, do it during daytime hours.

Safety Outside Of Atlantis Bahamas

Nassau has a lot to offer besides just the Atlantis Resort. While there are safety concerns while going outside of the resort, it’s definitely worth it in my opinion. Here are a few tips for staying safe while in Nassau, Bahamas.

Exercise extreme caution in the eastern part of New Providence Island (Nassau) – Atlantis and the main tourist areas of Nassau are located on the Northern and Western parts of the island. By staying in these areas, you’ll be a lot safer.

Keep a low profile – People are their own targets sometimes. By this I mean use simple common sense when touring Nassau outside of Atlantis. Don’t wear expensive, flashy clothing or handbags. Don’t make a scene, and don’t talk about money while outside of the resort.

Use caution at night – If you do want to venture out at night, use lots of caution. Always be aware of your surroundings. Try to travel in groups or with other tourists. Stay in highly populated areas at night.

Book Excursions with a Tour Company – If you want to do something exciting like go swimming with the pigs, or go snorkeling, book with a reputable tour company. They will not only keep you away from bad areas but often know the local laws and how to deal with certain situations that may arise.

Conclusion: Is Atlantis Bahamas Safe?

In general, Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas is considered to be a very safe place. But like any place in or outside of the United States, there are safe areas and there are areas you want to avoid.

I always recommend doing your research on any place you plan to visit, especially if you are traveling with kids.
